By way of its 10% stake in PetroGreen Energy Corporation (PGEC), EEI Power Corporation has business interest in the 32MW Maibarara geothermal power project in Sto. Tomas, Batangas. The facility is owned and operated by Maibarara Geothermal, Inc. (MGI) which is a joint-venture company among PGEC (65%); Phinma Energy Corp. (25%); and, PNOC Renewables Corp. (10%). An integrated power facility comprising of steamfield, power station, and transmission line, the Maibarara project started commercial operation in February 2014.
The first phase of the Maibarara project was the first geothermal power station built in Luzon in 16 years and the first renewable energy project declared commercial by the Department of Energy under the Renewable Energy Law of 2008.
